Last night I had the privilege of attending the Greater Buffalo Hall-of-Fame dinner honoring 14 of Western New York’s greatest sports figures. Here is the list of inductees for 2012:

I am extremely happy that I could attend this year’s dinner for several reasons; in my opinion, it was the most accomplished group of WNY athletes, coaches and contributors to ever be inducted into the GBHOF and secondly, two of the honorees are UB graduates and close personal friends.

Our UB inductees were: the late Nan Harvey and Eric Knuutila. Both Nan and Eric are very deserving of this honor. If Nan were here today, she would be very, very humbled and proud!

Congrats again to Coach Knuutila and to the Nan Harvey Family.

I am attending the Greater Buffalo Hall of Fame banquet tonight in honor of former UB Wrestler and Hall-of-Fame Coach Eric Knuutila.  Coach Knuutila will be inducted into the Hall-of-Fame later on this evening as both a Niagara County Community College Coach and a UB graduate/wrestler.  At NCCC, Coach Knuutila became one of the winningest coaches in NCAA Wrestling history.  He and his wife Linda have provided WNY with decades of leadership, guidance and service to the wrestling community.  They have also been mentor’s and role models to thousands of student-athletes across NYS and around the country.  I am very happy to say that Eric and Linda Knuutila have mentored me through the years as both a competitor and as a coach. 

He is widely recognized by people around the country as one of the most respected and decorated coaches in the country.  I am both honored and privileged to attend Coach Knuutila's Induction tonight.
